Mass Transportation Full-Scale Exercise

Description

This full-scale exercise is designed to build on the Advanced Passenger Rail Rescue (TNG 24P) course with exercise participants being dispatched to a variety of transportation based rescue scenarios in Disaster City?, each one building in complexity, intensity that requires increasing technical rescue sophistication.

Exercise participants will have significant hands-on skill scenarios in the Transportation Disaster Training Area (TDTA) located at Disaster City? in College Station, Texas. The TDTA contains a seven-car Amtrak passenger car derailment. Participants have an opportunity to learn multiple advanced rescue techniques that are unique to passenger rail disasters.

The exercise is five days long with eight-hours of training each day, for a total of 40 hours.

Upon completion of the exercise, participants will be issued a TEEX Certificate of Completion. Participants not able to complete all portions of this full-scale exercise will be issued a TEEX Certificate of Attendance.

Course Completion Requirements

Due to the strenuous nature of search and rescue activities, participants should secure a professional evaluation of their physical condition prior to enrolling in these courses.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Suggested Audience

This course has been developed for city, state, and federal responders. Emergency responders from municipal agencies tasked with responding to passenger rail incidents.

Participants include emergency responders from the following disciplines/services:

  • Fire Service (FS)
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
  • Law Enforcement (LE)
  • State or City Transit System Responders

Other Information

Travel and Personal Protective Equipment

Participants should plan travel to arrive the night before classes begin. The course delivery is at Disaster City® in College Station, Texas.

Responders that will be training on the rubble pile or inside of structures at Disaster City® are required to bring the following items to the course:

  • Helmet, must be ANSI rated Z89.1-Type 1 with headlamp
  • Steel toe safety boots, must be ANSI Z41 PT99 M1/75 C/75
  • Eye protection, must be ANSI Z87.1
  • Work gloves (leather or extrication gloves)
  • Standard work/duty clothing including long-sleeve shirts for every day of class
  • Raingear suitable for search and rescue operations. Class exercises are conducted in rain or shine.
  • Knee pads and elbow pads
  • Hand held flashlight and extra batteries
