Course Description
Trained officers who know how to use low power variable optic carbine is of the utmost importance to ensure an individual can deploy with speed and fire with precision while maintaining safety. This course teaches participants how to effectively utilize a special purpose patrol rifle on patrol or with specialized units.
This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Red Dot Optics Firearms Training Course #2529.
Prerequisites
Participants enrolling in this course must complete the following course prior to attendance:
- Patrol rifle or a course equivalent
If you are claiming a course equivalent from another training provider, you must upload the certificate of successful completion and TCOLE training record to your MyTEEX Student Portal within 48 hours of registration. If you completed the course requirement with TEEX, a TEEX employee will verify that you completed the course and received a passing grade.
Enrollment Requirements
Participants enrolling in this course must meet the following employment status. Please ensure the affiliation on your student account reflects the following:
- Be a licensed or certified peace officers with a current commission or military/security personnel
Participants enrolling in this course must submit the following items:
- Agency identification card
- Patrol rifle proficiency with current certification period
Please upload a copy of your prerequisite and enrollment requirements within 48 hours of registration to your MyTEEX Student Portal. The preferred document naming convention is “Last Name, First Name – Document.”
Participants will be contacted via email to confirm approval and admittance into the course. After your eligibility has been approved, you will be notified by email to pay your course fees. You have 48 hours to submit payment. Failure to complete any step in the process will result in you being withdrawn from the class.
Course Completion Requirements
Participants must provide information for all required fields, including their U.S. citizenship/permanent resident information, in addition to meeting all other attendance and course completion requirements. If this information is not provided, the participant will be considered incomplete and will not receive a certificate of completion.
Participant Must Provide
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Equipment
- Hearing protection
- Wrap around eye protection
- Billed cap
- Knee and elbow pads
- Weather appropriate, sturdy clothing and good footwear, i.e. duty style or hiking boots that provide good ankle support
- Magazine fed semi-automatic rifle that uses and was manufactured for the use of detachable magazines with sling, 3 magazines, magazine pouches, appropriate cleaning gear and 300 rounds of duty ammunition and 300 ball/training ammunition. No M855 green tip or armor-piercing ammo will be allowed. Offset red dot sight optics are required.

Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
In some cases, make-up work will not be available (due to equipment/facility needs and/or safety/teamwork components or activity setup/facilitation/requirements).
Participants in a TCOLE credit eligible course must complete the class in its entirety to receive a TEEX Certificate of Completion and be reported for TCOLE credit.

- Explain the benefits of a Low Power Variable Optic Carbine.
- Explain how the scope works.
- Demonstrate foundational shooting techniques that support accuracy and control.
- Describe shooting from various shooting positions and grip techniques to improve stability and control.
- Describe the concepts of using various shooting equipment to gain stability for long range precision shooting.
- Explain working proficiency with using a backup red dot sight.
- Demonstrate offset optic and Low Power Variable Optic Carbine skills in various shooting scenarios that simulate real world environments.

- Participants should be currently commissioned peace officers or security personnel, preferably with experience as a firearms instructor
