Course Description

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Pro Board Certification Requirements

Participants pursuing Pro Board certification must provide proof of:

• NFPA 470, Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction, Chapter 7 “Professional Qualifications for Hazardous Materials/WMD Operations Level Responders (NFPA 1072)”, and
• NFPA 1081, Standard for Facility Fire Brigade Member Professional Qualifications, Chapter 5 “Incipient Facility Fire Brigade Member” (2024 edition).

Course Completion Requirements

Participants must provide information for all required fields, including their U.S. citizenship/permanent resident information, in addition to meeting all other attendance and course completion requirements. If this information is not provided, the participant will be considered incomplete and will not receive a certificate of completion.

Participants must provide:

• Photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
• For field exercises, participants must provide National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1971 compliant PPE that meets the Level 4 requirements in the ESTI Student Safety Manual. Any bunker gear found to be unsafe or not NFPA compliant will not be allowed on the field. The bunker gear includes: coat, pants, hood, gloves, helmet, and boots.
• Participants are required to participate in hands-on activities utilizing Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and therefore must be clean shaven while attending class. Facial hair must not be present where the SCBA mask seal contacts the skin. Mustaches and normal sideburns are permitted.
• For classroom activities, participants must wear full length pants, closed-toe shoes, and short sleeve/ long sleeve shirts (no sleeveless shirts). It is preferred that participants wear duty uniform or business casual dress.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours (i.e., 32 hours) as a component of successful course completion. For Pro Board certification, 100% attendance is required. Participants are required to sign the attendance roster or scan in according to the course specifications provided by the lead instructor. 

During the course, the instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Physical Recommendation

Due to the nature of this training, a physical examination and fit test is recommended prior to enrolling in this course.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

• Explain risk factors in firefighting and general safety techniques.
• Explain the types of fire, how they behave, and how firefighters’ actions affect fire behavior.
• Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), safely and effectively.
• Use a portable fire extinguisher to extinguish a fire safely and effectively.
• Use fire hoses and/or master streams of various sizes to extinguish an interior fire safely and effectively.
• Use foam to extinguish fires safely and effectively.
• Apply safe and effective overhaul and salvage procedures following the mitigation of a fire incident.
• Use ladders safely and effectively.
• Identify proper tools to force entry, remove barriers, and ensure that the opening is in a safe condition and ready for entry.
• Explain the principles of proper ventilation on structures.
• Describe the components and operation of fixed fire protection systems.
• Explain the purpose of site preplans and fire safety surveys.
• Describe the components, structure, and framework of the Incident Command System/National Incident Management System (ICS/NIMS) and how it is implemented on scene.
• Describe procedures for efficient and effective communication during emergency and nonemergency situations.
• Demonstrate gross decontamination and the ability to safely and effectively attack and control interior fire.

If you are attending this course as part of TEEX’s Texas Annual Fire Training School, you need to be aware of the following additional information:

Registration with payment

Complete online registration on the  TEEX website or by selecting the “REGISTER” button above.  Secure your seat in the class with payment. 

You may use a credit card or organization purchase order (PO). 

If you are using a purchase order, TEEX policy requires the PO to be submitted within 48 hours of registration, or the enrollment may be canceled. You may upload the PO through your student portal or email it as an attachment to [email protected]. 

Ensure your PO includes the following:

• Agency or company name
• Billing address
• Contact name and phone number
• Description of goods and/or services provided (for example the course number and name) 
• Amount of charges
• Authorized signature
• Tax Payer ID, EIN, or FEIN. The field should be in the following format: xx-xxxxxxx.

The PO contact email needs to be either yourself or a responsible person within your organization.

These hours only apply to the Industrial Annual Fire Training School in July.
