For the most comprehensive fire training available, fire professionals choose the Annual Texas Fire Training Schools. Each year, thousands of fire service personnel from municipalities and industry participate in intensive, weeklong open-enrollment courses. Choosing to train during any of the fire schools enables participants to acquire new skills, meet with peers from around the globe, make new connections in the fire industry and to gain confidence from the best in hands-on emergency response training.

Options include the Spring Fire School held every March, then in July choose between our Spanish, Industrial or Municipal Fire Schools. Firefighter I & II courses offered online are open year-round in English. Other courses range from basic to advanced levels and are taught by hundreds of guest instructors, each experienced in specific areas of emergency response. Grants, vouchers and other funding for tuition assistance are available for Annual School participants.

Annual Industrial School EMS101 Emergency Medical Responder (blended format)
Preparation for certification as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).
Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) provide immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical services system. Emergency Medical Responders have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive. Emergency Medical Responders also provide assistance to higher-level personnel at the scene of emergencies and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders are a vital part of the comprehensive EMS response. Under medical oversight, Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Demonstrate proficiency in cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains for the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) in accordance with the current guidelines of the licensing/certification agency.
Licensing/Certification Agency National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and the Texas Department of State Health and Human Services – Emergency Medical Services

Please note: For the Spring School Emergency Medical Responders and the Municipal Annual School Emergency Medical Responders: This class is for Texas residents that are members of a municipal or volunteer first responder organization ONLY. This course is partially funded through a Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) Rural / Frontier EMS Education Grant. Any other students should attend the Industrial Annual School EMR class.

The Emergency Medical Responder course is an 80-hour blended course, with 44 hours of self-paced online didactic instruction that follows a lesson plan with weekly lecture and activity assignments the student completes using a home computer, textbook, and online supplemental material. The face-to-face portion is 36 hours of hands on psychomotor skills instruction and written testing. The face-to-face portion is completed at the Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station, Texas and runs for one week during the Texas Annual Fire Training School classes conducted in March and July.

Individuals successfully completing the EMR course are eligible for National Registry Cognitive Exam testing and certification through the Texas Department of State Health and Human Services (TDSHS) as an Emergency Medical Responder.

Annual Municipal School EMS101 Emergency Medical Responder (blended format)
Preparation for certification as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).
Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) provide immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical services system. Emergency Medical Responders have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive. Emergency Medical Responders also provide assistance to higher-level personnel at the scene of emergencies and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders are a vital part of the comprehensive EMS response. Under medical oversight, Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Demonstrate proficiency in cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains for the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) in accordance with the current guidelines of the licensing/certification agency.

Please note: For the Spring School Emergency Medical Responders and the Municipal Annual School Emergency Medical Responders: This class is for Texas residents that are members of a municipal or volunteer first responder organization ONLY. This course is partially funded through a Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) Rural / Frontier EMS Education Grant. Any other students should attend the Industrial Annual School EMR class.

The Emergency Medical Responder course is an 80-hour blended course, with 44 hours of self-paced online didactic instruction that follows a lesson plan with weekly lecture and activity assignments the student completes using a home computer, textbook, and online supplemental material. The face-to-face portion is 36 hours of hands on psychomotor skills instruction and written testing. The face-to-face portion is completed at the Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station, Texas and runs for one week during the Texas Annual Fire Training School classes conducted in March and July.

Individuals successfully completing the EMR course are eligible for National Registry Cognitive Exam testing and certification through the Texas Department of State Health and Human Services (TDSHS) as an Emergency Medical Responder.

The online lecture portion for Firefighter I may be completed at your own pace for up to 12 weeks. Time starts when registration is complete; NOT when you first log-in to the course. Access to the course is through your TEEX Student Portal account. 

Materials for ASP601 corresponds to the 7th Edition of IFSTA’s Essentials of Firefighting.The online component is just the beginning. There are many skills which must be mastered in order to complete your firefighter level I training.Firefighter Level I skills have been divided into two associated courses. Each skills course is a week of face-to-face hands-on field-application training. You will put your online learning into practice by participating in field exercises and scenarios. This course is designed to provide the knowledge to get you started in the American fire service. It is the first of several courses that cover the objectives set forth in NFPA 1001 (2019 edition) for Firefighter Level I. This online component is to be completed by using a computer, textbook, and online supplemental material. It consists of reading assignments, online knowledge-building activities, videos, chapter quizzes and tests. The online lecture portion for Firefighter I may be completed at your own pace for up to 12 weeks. Time starts when registration is complete; NOT when you first log-in to the course. Access to the course is through your TEEX Student Portal account. 

Materials for ASP601 corresponds to the 7th Edition of IFSTA’s Essentials of Firefighting.The online component is just the beginning. There are many skills which must be mastered in order to complete your firefighter level I training.Firefighter Level I skills have been divided into two associated courses. Each skills course is a week of face-to-face hands-on field-application training. You will put your online learning into practice by participating in field exercises and scenarios. It is comprised of the skills which are the live-fire prerequisites as outlined by NFPA 1403. These skills must be completed prior to a participant going into an interior live-fire training scenario. The materials for ASP602 corresponds to the skill sheets found in the 7th Edition of IFSTA’s Essentials of Firefighting. Please bring your textbook to the skills sessions. If you are already a member of a fire department, many if not all of these skills may be completed at your home department. Training must be well documented and approved by a certified instructor / certification coordinator. Materials for ASP604 corresponds to the 7th Edition of IFSTA’s Essentials of Firefighting.The online component is just the beginning. There are many skills which must be mastered in order to complete your firefighter level II training. Firefighter Level II skills (ASP605) is a week of face-to-face hands-on field-application training. You will put your online learning into practice by participating in field exercises and scenarios.
Once you complete this course and receive training in all associated skills, you may be eligible for certification. Please check with the fire certification agency in your area to learn what qualifications are required. This course is not a Pro Board certification and cannot be converted to Pro Board. Annual Spring School EMS101 Emergency Medical Responder (blended format)
Preparation for certification as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR).
Emergency Medical Responders (EMR) provide immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical services system. Emergency Medical Responders have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide immediate lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS resources to arrive. Emergency Medical Responders also provide assistance to higher-level personnel at the scene of emergencies and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders are a vital part of the comprehensive EMS response. Under medical oversight, Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment.

End-of-Course Outcomes: Demonstrate proficiency in cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains for the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) in accordance with the current guidelines of the licensing/certification agency.
Licensing/Certification Agency National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and the Texas Department of State Health and Human Services – Emergency Medical Services

Please note: For the Spring School Emergency Medical Responders and the Municipal Annual School Emergency Medical Responders: This class is for Texas residents that are members of a municipal or volunteer first responder organization ONLY. This course is partially funded through a Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) Rural / Frontier EMS Education Grant. Any other students should attend the Industrial Annual School EMR class.

The Emergency Medical Responder course is an 80-hour blended course, with 44 hours of self-paced online didactic instruction that follows a lesson plan with weekly lecture and activity assignments the student completes using a home computer, textbook, and online supplemental material. The face-to-face portion is 36 hours of hands on psychomotor skills instruction and written testing. The face-to-face portion is completed at the Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station, Texas and runs for one week during the Texas Annual Fire Training School classes conducted in March and July.

Individuals successfully completing the EMR course are eligible for National Registry Cognitive Exam testing and certification through the Texas Department of State Health and Human Services (TDSHS) as an Emergency Medical Responder.

This course, Firefighter Training, S-130 and Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, S-190, are required training for all personnel prior to certification as a Firefighter (FFT2) under the Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide (PMS) 310-1. An adapted version of L-180, “Human Factors on the Fireline,” has been included as part of this course. This entry-level course for all new firefighters can also be used as a refresher course for returning firefighters. The purpose of this course is to train new firefighters in basic firefighting skills. Firefighters who successfully complete this course and the Work Capacity Test are qualified to suppress wildland fires while under close supervision. Participants that successfully complete S-130 should also be given credit and a certificate for completing L-180, “Human Factors on the Fireline.”
Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, S-190 is a six- to eight-hour course designed to meet the training needs of a Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) on an incident as outlined in the Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide, PMS 310-1, and the Position Task Book (PTB) developed for the position. The Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide (PMS) 310-1 provides guidance and a national wildfire standard for establishing minimum training, skills, knowledge, experience, and physical fitness requirements for the participating agencies of the National Wildfire Cooperating Group (NWCG).
