Texas Annual Fire Training School

For the most comprehensive fire training available, fire professionals choose the Annual Texas Fire Training Schools. Each year, thousands of fire service personnel from municipalities and industry participate in intensive, weeklong open-enrollment courses. Choosing to train during any of the fire schools enables participants to acquire new skills, meet with peers from around the globe, make new connections in the fire industry and to gain confidence from the best in hands-on emergency response training.

Options include the Spring Fire School held every March, then in July choose between Industrial or Municipal Fire Schools. Spanish School will be held in August in Cartagena, Colombia. Firefighter I & II courses offered online are open year-round in English. Other courses range from basic to advanced levels and are taught by hundreds of guest instructors, each experienced in specific areas of emergency response. Grants and other funding for tuition assistance are available for Annual School participants. See the New Annual School Path toward Firefighter I & II Certification.

Guest Instructors’ Memorial

During the Texas Annual Fire Training Schools, memorial services are held to honor those on the wall as well as guest instructors whose names will be added for the year.

Safety First

All students participating in training at TEEX Brayton Fire Training Field are required to follow all guidelines in the Student Safety Manual for the fire field.

Fire Field Student Safety ManualAdditional Information on Annual Schools

Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Use Requirement

As of 9/1/23 an SCBA must be worn and in use at all times during interior and exterior live fire training once participants have crossed the red line of demarcation located around the training props. The only exception to this policy is during incipient fire training. (For example, project #17 portable extinguisher fires and project #88 LNG fires when utilized as incipient fire training props.) An incipient fire is defined as a fire that is in the initial or beginning stage and can be controlled or extinguished by portable fire extinguishers, Class II standpipe(s), or small hose systems without the need for protective clothing or breathing apparatus.
