Course Description

This class is for the hazardous materials responder that wants to take their skills to the next level through a non-certification scenario-based format. This week will challenge your past training at a technician or specialist level. Come prepared to use your leadership skills, knowledge of chemicals, remediation skills, and decontamination techniques. Participants will use both cognitive and hands-on skills to successfully mitigate a series of hazardous materials scenarios. By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify hazards, incorporate air monitoring to develop the hot warm, and cold zones; demonstrate and explain the different types of decontamination processes; and describe the required medical management of patients involved in hazardous materials incident.

Meets and exceeds the annual training requirements of OSHA 1910.120 (q).

Hazardous Materials Technician

Hazardous Materials Incident Command

Pro-Board certification preferred. 

Course Completion Requirements

Course Attire/Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • For field exercise, participants must provide National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1971 compliant PPE that meets the Level 2 requirements in the ESTI Student Safety Manual. Any gear found to be unsafe or not NFPA compliant will not be allowed on the field. The PPE includes: safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, and safety-toed boots.
  • Participants are required to participate in hands-on activities utilizing Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and therefore must be clean shaven while attending class. Facial hair must not be present where the SCBA mask seal contacts the skin. Mustaches and normal sideburns are permitted.
  • For classroom activities, participants must wear full length pants, closed-toe shoes, and short sleeve / long sleeve shirts (no sleeveless shirts).

Participants Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Due to the strenuous nature of class activities, participants should secure a professional evaluation of their physical condition prior to enrolling in this course.

Registration with payment

Complete online registration on the  TEEX website or by selecting the “REGISTER” button above.  Secure your seat in the class with payment. 

You may use a credit card or organization purchase order (PO). 

If you are using a purchase order, TEEX policy requires the PO to be submitted within 48 hours of registration, or the enrollment may be canceled. You may upload the PO through your student portal or email it as an attachment to [email protected]

Ensure your PO includes the following:

  • Agency or company name
  • Billing address
  • Contact name and phone number
  • Description of goods and/or services provided (for example the course number and name) 
  • Amount of charges
  • Authorized signature

The PO contact email needs to be either yourself or a responsible person within your organization.
