Course Description
The Code Enforcement II course provides advanced-level training designed to prepare officers for final proficiency testing through the Code Enforcement Association of Texas (CEAT). Training covering a range of information includes a review of housing, construction, property maintenance, occupancy levels, and both electrical and fire safety codes. Additional focus is placed on zoning codes and proper signage regulations covering agricultural, residential, and industrial zones. Specialized guidance is provided to officers specific to compliance program management techniques, the development of budgeting and strategic planning, as well as the importance surrounding productive interactions with citizens, media and councils/commissions/boards in a public setting. Upon completion of the course, a final examination will be administered by a CEAT representative. Participants who have not yet submitted CEAT testing fee payments can do so either the day of the examination or through information found on the CEAT website.
Prerequisites
Prior Training Course or Knowledge
Participants must provide evidence of completion of the Basic Code Enforcement (COD300) course by completing a Texas Code Enforcement Officer Status Verification Form. This prerequisite may be accomplished by uploading a copy of the document during registration using the TEEX Student Portal. Once received and approved, the participant will be notified by email they have met all prerequisites and have been added to the class roster. All documentation is due at least 14 business days prior to the start of class.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

- Explain the important concepts of Basic Code Enforcement.(COD300).
- Develop areas of personal and professional development for the code officer.
- Recognize the supervisory skills of leadership and financial management.
- Explain key legal processes.
- Determine housing and building code violations as well as code inspections.
- Apply available code enforcement officer tools.

This course is designed for experienced code enforcement officers interested in learning about advanced enforcement techniques, increasing their individual leadership skills, and seeking higher level personal development.
