Course Description

Picture of a police vehicle on the emergency vehicle driving track during the Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor courseThis update course is for those with Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) Instructor certificates near expiration or who have not taught EVOC in recent years. Over three days participants will refresh their knowledge with the legal aspects of emergency driving and practice a number of driving maneuvers. Class will provide a realistic, high-stress, driving program with over 16 hours of actual driving time.

This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements EVOC Course #57009.

Prerequisites

Participants enrolling in this course must complete the following course prior to attendance:

  • Valid driver’s license with the proper endorsement

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Equipment

  • Provide a suitable emergency vehicle in excellent working condition. It is recommended that each participant bring a vehicle to maximize driving time towards achieving successful course completion. If an agency needs participants to share a vehicle, submit the written request via email to [email protected] at least two weeks prior to class start date.
  • Vehicle must be equipped with heavy-duty suspension and be in good mechanical condition.
  • Two spare tires are required during driving exercises. Seriously worn tires are considered hazardous and may not be allowed during exercises.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed
