Course Description
Basic sniper uses practical exercises to provide law enforcement designated marksmen the knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively engage threat targets in response to an active shooter, hostage rescue or barricaded shooter situations.
This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements SWAT Sniper Training Course #3324.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Enrollment Requirements
Participants enrolling in this course must meet the following employment status. Please ensure the affiliation on your student account reflects the following:
- Licensed or certified peace officer with a current commission employed by or attached to a law enforcement/investigative agency
Participants enrolling in this course must submit the following item:
- Agency identification card
Please upload a copy of your enrollment requirements within 48 hours of registration to your MyTEEX Student Portal. If you are unable to upload the documents you can email them to [email protected]. The preferred document naming convention is “Last Name, First Name – Document.”
Participants will be contacted via email to confirm approval and admittance into the course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Physical Requirements
- All participants will be required to pass basic sniper qualification to receive certification.
Equipment
- Rifle, Bolt, or Semi-Auto, 5.56mm or larger caliber (.308 or 6.5 Creedmoor preferred). Must have magnified variable power scope, minimum power 3X9 with quality bases and rings. The scope must have a reticle and matching turrets capable of adjusting and measuring in either MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA.
- If your gun may have performance issues, we recommend bringing a back up rifle
- 500 rounds match ammo (No Armor Piercing or Tracer Ammo)
- Sling (Must assist in sling-supported shooting)
- Quality Bipod
- Shooting Sticks/Tripod/Anything to help support the gun
- Ammo/Mag Pouch
- Data Book/Clipboard/Notebook with pen/pencil
- Eye and Ear Protection
- Billed Cap
- Gloves
- Bean Bag/Shot Sock
- Range Bag/Small Backpack
- Cleaning Kit

Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
This course will have varying daily start and end times throughout the course offering. In some cases, make-up work will not be available (due to equipment/facility needs and/or safety/teamwork components or activity setup/facilitation/requirements).
Participants in a TCOLE credit eligible course must complete the class in its entirety to receive a TEEX Certificate of Completion and be reported for TCOLE credit.
