Course Description

Two men fighting; the man on left is holding a baton and the man on the right is trying to punch him with a strikeThe use of a baton is categorized as an intermediate weapon on the use of force scale. A very important concept for its usage is overlooked; the baton provides the officer with a means to control distance to a suspect without entering the reactionary gap. Participants will learn footwork and stances for baton usage, cover/block positioning, strikes and baton-assisted joint locks, and how to properly use additional improvised weapons to maintain control of a subject.
