Course Description

oil field imageThe Environmental Regulation for Oil and Gas Exploration and Production course focuses on various environmental regulations as they apply to onshore oil and gas exploration and production in Texas, Louisiana, and throughout the United States. The course provides participants with critical information necessary to avoid, minimize, and/or control regulation when possible, helping to increase company profitability, conserve resources, and comply with state and federal environmental laws.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Prior Training Courses of Knowledge

It is recommended, but not required, participants have a knowledge of oil field operations.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  •   Apply environmental laws and regulations on a federal and state level within Region 6 as they relate to onshore oil and gas E&P operations.
  •   Explain the environmental regulatory process for oil and gas E&P.
  •   Manage waste streams associated with E&P operations and E&P maintenance facilities.
  •   Manage E&P activities using federal and state regulations to protect the waters of the United States.
  •   Describe environmental regulatory programs related to air emissions and permitting.
  •   Apply principles of ecological regulatory programs to oil and gas E&P activities.
  •   Assess how to properly respond to an E&P-related spill event.
  •   Plan a drilling location considering stormwater and SPCC issues.

Suggested Audience

This course is designed for field personnel, small oil and gas operators, safety professionals, or management personnel associated with oil and gas exploration and production efforts who need to comply with environmental laws.
