Course Description
**PLEASE NOTE** This course has been approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to fulfill 20 credit hours in the following operator license area(s):
– Wastewater Operator License
The Industrial Pretreatment course provides participants with knowledge specific to industrial wastewater pretreatment procedures. During the course, students are introduced to procedures designed to control, reduce, and prevent potentially harmful pollutants from entering both wastewater and stormwater collection systems. Students also explore aspects surrounding the prevention of non-domestic waste from entering Publically Owned Treatment Works (POTW) systems.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Explain the purpose of an Industrial Pretreatment Program.
- Describe the Texas Wastewater Pretreatment Program.
- Discuss the importance of source reduction (pollution prevention) in a successful pretreatment program.
- Identify the basic elements of establishing appropriate pretreatment standards.
- Discuss the Pretreatment Program roles and responsibilities of the POTW.
- Describe the potential impact of non-industrial sources of pollution on the POTW wastewater treatment system.
- Discuss the responsibilities of industrial users of the POTW wastewater treatment system.
- Identify the requirements for wastes hauled to POTWs for treatment.

Personnel with responsibilities specific to wastewater collection and treatment, and industrial pretreatment.
