Course Description
Participants will learn how to successfully train cadre to handle disturbances in a jail. This course will provide an overview of less-lethal systems and participants will perform baton and shield techniques, while participating as a member of a riot control team in a corrections facility.
This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Riot Control in a Correctional Setting Course #667368.
Prerequisites
Participants enrolling in this course must complete the following course prior to attendance:
- Basic Instructor Development (TCOLE #1014) or course equivalent
If you are claiming a course equivalent, you must upload the document to your TEEX student portal within 48 hours of registration. If you completed the course requirement with TEEX, a TEEX employee will verify that you completed the course and received a passing grade.
Please upload a copy of your prerequisite requirements within 48 hours of registration to your MyTEEX Student Portal. If you are unable to upload the documents you can email them to [email protected]. The preferred document naming convention is “Last Name, First Name – Document.”
Participants will be contacted via email to confirm approval and admittance into the course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Physical Requirements
Physical participation is required and participants must be in good physical condition. Participants should wear clothing appropriate for defensive tactics training.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
In some cases, make-up work will not be available (due to equipment/facility needs and/or safety/teamwork components or activity setup/facilitation/requirements).
Participants in a TCOLE credit eligible course must complete the class in its entirety to receive a TEEX Certificate of Completion and be reported for TCOLE credit.
