Course Description

This course is designed for firefighting personnel qualified to become live fire instructors and live fire instructor in-charge.  The course satisfies the requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1041 Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Professional Qualifications, Chapter 7, Live Fire Instructor. The class is designed around classroom lectures, group discussions, and group exercises to enhance skills needed to act as a live fire instructor / Instructor in-charge and safely provide live fire training to emergency responders. Participants will develop skills such as applying safety guidelines, implementing live fire training procedures and supervising live fire training evolution events. Participants will be able to perform the duties required of a Live Fire Instructor and Live Fire Instructor in-charge to safely provide live fire training to emergency responders.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be eligible to take the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) written exam and skills testing.

Prerequisites

  • NFPA 1041 Fire and Emergency Services Instructor 2
  • NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter II (Or) NFPA 1081 Interior Structural Facility Fire Brigade Member

Course Completion Requirements

Participants Must Provide

  • Laptop computer, tablet, or similar device capable of operating word processing software.

     (Example: Microsoft Word)

  • Method for approved file sharing with the instructors. Potential options include:
    • Flash drive
    • Thumb drive
    • Personal or work email account
    • Please note, the use of file sharing apps or software such as Dropbox are not permitted
  • A Government-issued photo ID. This will be required on the first and last days of class. See the TEEX Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Participants must supply their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE/Bunker Gear) to include:

  • Jacket
  • Pants
  • Boots
  • Gloves
  • Hood
  • Helmet
  • Face Mask

TEEX will provide:

  • SCBA

Participant Attire

Attire shall be the participant’s regular duty uniform.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion and to sit for the Pro Board certification exam.
