Course Description

This is a 2 day course to ensure Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel can make critical decisions effectively during an emergency/disaster by employing the appropriate EMS functions in Incident Command System (ICS) knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs), and decision-making techniques. 


Incident Command System ICS-100 and ICS-200

Preferred courses are Q0462 and Q0463, available through NFA Online.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide:

A photo identification on the first day of class. See the TEEX Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines. 

Laptop or tablet to view student manual exercises. 

Attendance Requirements

To meet NFA attendance requirements, participants must complete each training module and successfully complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes and pass the end of course exam to receive course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional requirements. 

ICS-700 National Incident Management System (NIMS)

ICS-800 National Response Framework

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Apply the ICS, as defined by the NIMS, at emergency incidents.
  • Determine appropriate EMS personnel positions within ICS for a variety of incident types.
  • Use preincident information for incident scene decision-making.
  • Identify and order necessary resources, using ICS guidelines, for a best-practice response to a variety of incident types.
  • Manage on-scene EMS activities to maximize personnel and scene safety.

Suggested Audience

The primary audience for this training includes EMS personnel who have duties involving emergency/disaster scene management at small-to medium-sized incidents (e.g., front line supervisors, street supervisors and shift supervisors).
