Course Description
Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Instructor Development Course (PRT106) and Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Instructor Refresher (PRT105) are designed to provide an overview of the skills, knowledge, and techniques related to H2S training. Accidents associated with H2S continue to occur even though the extremely dangerous properties of the gas are known. People tend to disregard the danger and, other than conventional hazard communications training, do not seek out specialized training in handling toxic chemicals. Numerous fatalities occur when victims and their would-be rescuers succumb to the effects of H2S. In this course, participants will develop the necessary skills to develop and implement an H2S training program at their facilities.
Prerequisites
OSHA Certification/Licensing Requirement
Participants must show evidence of completion of the TEEX Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Instructor Development (PRT106) course within the last three years prior to registering for this course.
This prerequisite may be accomplished by uploading a copy of the documents during registration using the TEEX Student Portal. Once received and approved, the participant will be notified by email they have met all prerequisites and have been added to the class roster. All documentation is due at least 14 business days prior to the start of class.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Describe H2S key terms and definitions.
- Identify appropriate H2S-related course content.
- Assess OSHA regulations relevant to H2S.
- Assess non-OSHA federal and state regulations and best practices relevant to H2S.
- Explain how to assess the potential seriousness of H2S exposure during any phase of an operation.
- Identify a qualified H2S trainer.
- Explain the process of developing training curriculum.
- Recognize whether a student has received sufficient H2S safety training for their exposure level.
- Explain methods for evaluating and documenting an existing training course.
Suggested Audience
This course is designed for employers responsible for the training of on-site personnel who could potentially be exposed to H2S.
