Is TEEX a part of the Texas A&M University?
No, not exactly. Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service(TEEX), is an extension agency within the Texas A&M University System. Texas A&M University is also part of the system. You may find it helpful to review the System organization chart for additional clarification.
What is the Lineworker Academy?
The Lineworker Academy is a set of courses designed to qualify students for entrance into apprenticeships as electrical line workers. We offer plenty of hands-on, real world training. For example, you will experience two “Night School” training evenings to expose you to what it is like to work on a utility pole at night.
Are there any educational requirements needed before enrolling in the Lineworker Academy?
Yes, as the course description notes, students who plan to enroll need to have received their high school diploma or received their GED equivalent.
What is the minimum age for application?
Students must be at least 18 years of age by the time they graduate.
What is the maximum age for application?
No maximum age has been determined.
How long is the Lineworker Academy?
The Academy is 15 weeks totaling 480 hours of instructional time. Students are expected to attend 100% of the training in order to receive credit for completing the Academy. If an extenuating circumstance arises the students will have to get it approved by the instructor.
What are the daily hours of the Lineworker Academy?
Standard class hours are from 8 am to 5 pm. However, those hours are subject to change due to holidays and other factors.
Where is the location of the Lineworker Academy?

Will lunch be provided?
No, students will be on their own for lunch. The Academy will provide a handout for off-campus lunch options.
Will parking personal vehicles be available?
Yes, parking is available on site. No permits, special permissions, or authorizations are required.
Does TEEX offer financial aid and student loans?
TEEX does not offer financial aid at this time, yet is actively working to provide this option to students. Due to regulations, TEEX cannot extend credit to individuals enrolling into the Academy. The full tuition is due at the time of registration.
Does TEEX accept scholarship money to pay for the Lineworker Academy?
Yes. However, the scholarship funds must come from the individual participating in the Lineworker Academy. The funds cannot come directly from the organization awarding the scholarship.
Does TEEX provide housing or transportation?
No housing or transportation is offered to Academy students, however Lineman Academy staff and instructors can provide suggestions for long term-housing options locally. Search for Hotels and RV Parks.
Does TEEX provide job placement services after graduation?
No, however part of the course is dedicated to employment preparation after graduation. This part of the course will walk you through resumes, job interviews, job fairs, and skill demonstrations. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with potential employers throughout the Academy.
Are college credits awarded upon successful completion of the academy?
Successful completion of the Academy will earn participants 36 of 60 college credits toward a Blinn College District Associate of Applied Science in Power Line Worker. Those credit hours will be awarded when you take the remaining 24 hours through Blinn. Students will also be qualified in equipment operation and pole climbing, will receive their Basic First Aid and CPR Certification, their OSHA 10-Hour ET&D Construction Card, and be eligible to apply for their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
