TEEX’s Jose Garza of Laredo Named 2024 Texas A&M University System Regents Fellow

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Jose Garza of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) Water and Wastewater Training Program’s Frank M. Tejeda Center has been selected as a 2024 Texas A&M University System Regents Fellow. This prestigious honor recognizes his outstanding service, dedication and transformative impact on communities spanning the 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border.

Throughout his remarkable 31-year career, Garza’s work has focused on improving lives by ensuring access to clean drinking water in economically distressed areas along the border. His efforts have enhanced the effectiveness, efficiency and sustainability of water and wastewater utility operations across the South Texas region.

“Jose embodies the spirit of selfless service and excellence that drive the mission of TEEX and the Texas A&M University System,” said TEEX Agency Director David Coatney. “His unwavering dedication to improving people’s lives is truly inspiring. This recognition as a Texas A&M University System Regents Fellow is a testament to Jose’s exceptional leadership, technical expertise and commitment to addressing one of the most fundamental needs of communities—access to clean, safe water. From his early days as a water and wastewater operator in San Marcos, Texas, to his time working with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and his over two decades with TEEX, Garza has consistently demonstrated a commitment to service and teamwork. His calm and collaborative leadership, innovative problem-solving skills and natural ability to inspire others have been central to his success.

The Texas A&M University System Regents Fellow designation is reserved for exemplary agency service, extension and research professionals. This year, Garza joins an elite group of 13 professionals across the Texas A&M System recognized for their extraordinary contributions.
