NFPA 1002 Driver/Operator - Mobile Water Supply

This course is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge required for certification to Driver/Operator-Mobile Water Supply as described in Chapter 10, "Mobile Water Supply Apparatus" of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1002, Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications (2009 ed.).

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to operate a mobile water supply apparatus during emergency situations. You will have the opportunity to practice apparatus positioning, drafting, and water shuttle operations.

In addition, participants who successfully complete the course and pass the written and skills test will receive a National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board) certification.


There are no prerequisites to attend this course.

You are required to provide documentation of prerequisites for Firefighter I (NFPA 1001) & Driver/Operator Pumper (NFPA 1002). The documentation you provide as proof of prerequisite must meet certain requirements.

Pro Board Testing Accommodation Information

Accommodations are provided for those candidates who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as disabled.

Candidates seeking special accommodation requests should:

  • Submit formal documentation (such as a letter from the doctor or a letter from his/her company's Human Resources Department) to the Certification Office.
  • Provide documentation that is dated within the last 5 years.
  • Provide documentation to the certification office on or before the first day of class for approval.

If the request is approved, candidates will receive one of the following allowable accommodations:

  • A testing room to oneself so the candidate can read the questions out loud to him or herself.
  • The test questions may be printed in a larger font (up to 7% larger).
  • The test may be copied on off-white paper (i.e., cream colored).
  • The candidate may use highlighters or a highlighter sheet.

Any requests for accommodations not listed above must be submitted to the Certification Office 2 weeks prior to the class start date. The request will be reviewed by the certification committee and the candidate will be notified of the decision of the committee.
