Course Description
The Flaggers in Work Zones course provides training to work zone personnel assigned to traffic control duties. Training is valid for 4 years from the date of completion. During the course, participants are instructed on proper flagging techniques critical to the safety of work zone personnel and guided through demonstrations designed to help reduce the risk of traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities. In addition to classroom training, all participants are provided opportunities to practice using those techniques demonstrated during assigned practical field scenarios.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed
Recommended
Prior Training Courses or Knowledge
It is recommended, but not required, participants complete the TEEX Work Zone Traffic Control (HWS002) course prior to registration.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate fundamental flagger procedures in accordance with Chapter 6E of the 2011Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and develop a basic traffic control plan for a common two-flagger operation.
- Discuss minimum qualifications along with recommended safety equipment for flaggers.
- Demonstrate proper hand signals in conjunction with hand-signaling devices to help communicate specific instructions to drivers passing through a temporary traffic control zone.
- Develop a basic traffic control plan for a common two-flagger operation using the appropriate tables to locate the flagger stations.
- Review their knowledge and complete an evaluation of the course.
