Course Description
New course coming soon! Are you looking for a new career path? This course is designed to provide participants with the concepts and skills necessary of a commissioned security officer in the State of Texas. The online course delivers Texas Private Security Program approved curriculum for commissioned security officers, including verbal and written communication best practices, incident scene security, situational awareness, use of force, conflict resolution, and an introduction to defensive tactics, handcuffing, and weapons and firearms. The practices taught in this course may be superseded by your agency’s departmental policy.
After completing the SAP202 Texas Private Security Level III online course, participants will be eligible to complete the in-person training event for the skills-based Private Security Level III Practical Applications course.
This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements for Course #6016.
Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
- The mandatory completion/duration period for this eCourse is 90 days from the registration date.
- Participants will have three attempts to pass the final examination.
- To complete this course you are required to have a computer with internet access.

To successfully complete this online course, you should have access to a computer with the following system requirements:

- Note: The use of a tablet is not recommended and may result in connectivity issues.
- Broadband or high-speed internet connection
- Recommended: Wired connection with at least 2.0 Mbps bandwidth (bi-directional, i.e. sending and receiving)

Attendance Requirements
To meet attendance requirements, participants must review each training module and complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes, and/or end of course exam.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Recognize the statutes and administrative rules relevant and required for commissioned security officers.
- Identify essential elements for effective verbal and written communications.
- Explain the job duties of a security officer at an incident scene.
- Recognize the benefits of using situational awareness.
- Recognize how to properly use force as a security officer.
- Recognize how to resolve conflict.
- Recognize the basics of defensive tactics.
- Describe when and how to use handcuffs.
- Recognize the types and uses of intermediate weapons.
- Demonstrate the ability to properly handle, clean, and store firearms.

- Please allow 48-72 business hours for your PSP-30 certificate to be emailed to you. The one you see on your student portal upon course completion is not the official PSP-30 certificate.
- You must register and attend the face-to-face portion of the blended offering within six (6) months of the completion date of the TEEX Private Security Level III course. If you do not complete the requirements within the stated window, you will need to repeat this online course.
- The TEEX Private Security Level III blended course offering does not include the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) for licensing purposes per 1702.163. The DPS candidate must seek the MMPI separate from their course completion with TEEX.
