Course Description
The Disaster Preparedness for Healthcare Organizations Within The Community Infrastructure course provides information specific to healthcare organizations vulnerability to a disaster. During this FEMA sponsored course, participants will be introduced to the various natural, technological, and civil hazards to which healthcare organizations may be vulnerable and the potential impacts of those hazards.
Federal guidelines and legislation that serve to aid in the preparedness for, and response to, incidents involving these hazards are discussed, as are current emergency management standards for the healthcare community. Participants review response and recovery issues that should be addressed by medical facilities and organizations in preparation for a large-scale incident, including identification of critical resources necessary for response and recovery.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
Citizenship and FEMA Student ID Requirement
Participants must be U.S. citizens in order to attend this class. A
FEMA Student ID is required to register for and participate in any
training provided by FEMA agencies. All FEMA training providers,
registration systems, and enrollment procedures are required to use this
FEMA SID, which can be obtained at the FEMA website.
Participant Must Provide
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook, opens in a new tab] for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
- Electronic
device such as a smart phone, tablet, or laptop to complete the
pre-test, evaluation, and post-test online in the class.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, the instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example an activity or exercise that cannot be missed. Additionally, participants are required to score a 70% or better on the Post-Test in order to receive a course certificate of completion. Participants have three attempts to pass the Post-Test.

- Assess the preparedness of healthcare organizations, within the context of the community, using medical surge as a model.
- Determine preparations for the recovery from incidents affecting the community and healthcare organizations.
