Protecting against, responding to and recovering from emergencies – from natural or human causes – during sports or other large-scale events requires specialized knowledge and training. These courses focus specifically on incident management, crowd and evacuation management, crisis information management and developing capability to operate in multi-agency collaborations. Training is targeted to personnel in campus administration/emergency management; athletic department management; campus, local and state law enforcement; local and state emergency management; local fire and emergency medical services; and large venue management/operations. Participants work together to collaborate on basic concepts for planning, risk assessment, training, exercises for plans, and recovery/business continuity. These courses have a limited offering with priority to Division 1A sporting events and large venue special events. Certain criteria for event size must be met prior to scheduling and coordinators will work with the requesting entity to determine eligibility.

This course is designed to build capabilities for multi-agency collaboration pertaining to risk management for sport events. It introduces the seven-step sport security risk management process, including the idea of risk management and setting risk management goals for sport events, identifying assets that need protecting and determining risk, implementing planning and mitigation actions, and implementing after-action review for events as well as incidents. Through activity-based training modules, intact security teams will enhance their ability for planning, risk assessment, training, and exercising practices specific to conducting sport events. This course emphasizes the unique aspects of response to an incident occurring during a sports/special event, including considerations for business continuity and after-action activities. You will learn the skills necessary to effectively manage an incident by applying and implementing a multi-disciplinary management team approach as described in the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
The course is designed to help develop athletic department staff, facility management personnel, campus public safety personnel, emergency response supervisors, and others involved in sports/special event management to better manage incidents that could occur during an event. 
At the end of the course a practical application exercise can be customized to your facility where the course is held.
