Course Description

Skid Steer SafetyThe Skid Steer Operator course provides entry-level to advanced operators with the concepts, objectives, and safety practices used during operation of skid steer machinery in construction zone settings of all types. During the course, information covering use and site issues are discussed surrounding building construction, road and highway construction, oil field operations, and pipeline work. Participants successfully completing the course are provided 12 hours of hands-on field exercise training covering the application of principles and practices specific to equipment operation.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • Hard hat
  • Steel-toed footwear
  • Gloves
  • Visibility safety vest
  • A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  •   Apply a basic understanding of the safe operation of skid steer equipment.
  •   Demonstrate knowledge of basic skid steer design and components.
  •   Perform basic skid steer maintenance and operations.
  •   Perform excavation and loading activities with the skid steer safely and proficiently.

Suggested Audience

This course is designed for entry-level construction workers, skid steer operators, and new employees serving the building construction, roadway construction, utility, and oil and gas industries.
