Course Description

This course is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to respond to a Wilderness Search and Rescue (SAR) incident and to function as a Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMs) crewmember, or team leader.  This course meets or exceeds the standards set in the NWCG REMS Standard, PMS 552, Fire Scope ICS -223, NFPA 1006 /1670 (2021 edition), and the DHS/FEMA National US&R Response System curriculum.

The course also covers valuable information about working in extreme austere conditions, providing limited medical care in austere conditions, extended operations management, small team dynamics, and night operations.

This course is also offered as a custom contract class to accommodate specific curriculum and location needs.

Prerequisites

NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Awareness & Operations Pro Board, and NFPA 1006 Rope Technician ProBoard certification or 40-hour Rope Rescue
equivalents required before registering for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participants Must Provide 

  • Photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
  • Level 2 PPE that is compliant with the TEEX Student Safety
    Manual
     which includes the following:
    • Rescue helmet with a chin strap with a 3-point attachment
    • Primary and redundant lighting
    • Rope rescue gloves, all-leather work gloves
    • Eye protection
    • Closed toed boots

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises.  This course requires participants to attend 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion.

  • Participants should arrive in shape to be able to complete an arduous pack test as defined by the US Forestry Service.
  • Due to the nature of this training, a physical examination is recommended prior to this course.

Suggested Audience

All personnel that are involved with austere technical rescue incident response.

Other Information

Participants should be prepared to stay overnight at the training site.  Participants are expected to provide all of their own shelter needs for the duration of the training.

Fees must be paid prior to or on the first day of class.  Course dates and fees are subject to change without notice.
