Course Description

This course is designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge, and abilities required to perform advanced rope rescue operations utilizing methodologies, protocols, and management techniques as it deals with Artificial High Directional (AHD) in a confined space environment.

The course is a 4-day advanced level course for rescue professionals and emergency responders.  The AHD is a hands-on training course covering the correct implementation and use of artificial high directional in a confined space-based setting.  AHD teaches professionals working within the rope rescue environment the many benefits of using constructed artificial high points in their work with proven high angle rope rescue techniques.  This course touches on the use of advanced rope systems, and confined space theories, although the focus is on the construction of the AHD themselves in small spaces.  These techniques will be applied in and around vertical, horizontal vessels/shafts, columns unique to the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi Texas.

The course will cover several advanced set-up positions and the proper set-up method for any manufactured or improvised AHD (Arizona Vortex/Terradaptor).  This extensive course also covers working with the monopod (gin pole), A-frame, Inline A-frame, tandem AHD’s and so much more.  This workshop will be held in conjunction with PETZL Rescue.

Prerequisites

40 hours of Rope Rescue-Related Training.  NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue II/technician is preferred and is strongly suggested before registering for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

PPE Level 2 includes:

  • Rescue helmet with a chin strap with a 3-point attachment
  • Rope Rescue gloves, all-leather work gloves
  • Eye protection
  • Approved safety toe boots

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises.  This course requires participants to attend 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion.

Recommended

Due to the amount of rope work and confined space rescue involved a NFPA 1006 Rope Rescue Level II/Confined Space Level II/Technician is strongly advised before attempting this course.

All Municipal and Industrial Firefighters, as well as any other personnel involved with Technical Rescue Incident Response, and is designed to meet the training requirements of NFPA 1006.
