Course Description

drone Public safety personnel are often required to put themselves in harm’s way to serve and protect citizens. Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (drones) can provide public safety personnel with detailed information so that response teams can make informed decisions. Through the use of drone technology and remote imaging, an individual can assess a situation and plan a response while mitigating any safety concerns for officers and bystanders. This hands-on training provides public safety personnel with advanced flight procedures training to include mission planning to include search patterns and deployment preparations, and night operation challenges and usage of thermography. The course culminates in a final demonstration of mission planning and advanced flight maneuvers to include night operations according to the NIST Standard Test Methods for sUAS.

This course provides the student with actual sUAS flight time utilizing a training quadcopter.

This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements for Course #667377.


There are no prerequisites for this course.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example, a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Participants in a TCOLE credit course must complete the class in its entirety to receive TCOLE credit.
