Course Description

This three-day course is filled with information needed to successfully complete an inspection or an assessment using a small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS).

One day is devoted to classroom information and two days deal with hands-on exercises.  Participants will leave with the foundational elements needed to complete any task at hand.

NOTE: Classes can be canceled due to inclement weather. Keep informed on the weather forecast for the day of class and be on the look out for advisory emails from TEEX.


There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Course Attire 

  • Required: Close-toed Shoes
  • Recommended: Long Pants

Participant Must Provide

Note: TEEX will provide all sUAS equipment including needed accessories to perform flights.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Prior Training Courses or Knowledge 

  • FAA Certificated Remote Pilot (Part 107)

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  •    Describe the underlying nature and applicable regulation of sUAS.
  •    Safely prepare and maintain an sUAS for commercial use.
  •    Demonstrate proper safety procedures for lithium polymer battery usage and storage.
  •    Recognize all applicable procedures that enable a safe UAS mission.
  •    Estimate environmental conditions to determine specific settings for optimal data retrieval.
  •    Complete a photogrammetry mission using an sUAS.
  •   Perform initial preparation, take-off, and landing of an sUAS mission.
  •   Safely pilot an sUAS during a mission while maintaining orientation.
  •   Demonstrate proper techniques while conducting autonomous and manual missions.

Those interested in, or already using, a sUAS to perform commercial inspections/assessments.
