Course Description
Experienced collision investigators seeking to master the complexities of analyzing traffic collisions and reconstruct the events should attend this course. The course expands on the fundamentals of crash investigation with special emphasis on crash reconstruction. Critical thinking skills are sharpened to enable the trained crash investigator to analyze and understand evidence found at the crash scene. Momentum, principle direction of force, Delta-V, vector analysis, and time/distance are highlighted in this course. Case studies, many based on crash tests with known quantities as a guide, are used to illustrate major learning points.
This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements for Course #78017.
Prerequisites
Participants enrolling in this course must complete the following courses prior to attendance:
- Intermediate Collision Investigation or equivalent
- Advanced Collision Investigation or equivalent
Please send proof of course completion via email to [email protected] at least two weeks prior to class start date.
Participants will be contacted via email to confirm approval and admittance into course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
- Laptop or tablet
- Scientific calculator
- Mechanical or wood pencil(s) with a lead measurement of .5mm
- TEEX formula cards provided in prerequisite courses
- TEEX traffic templates provided in prerequisite courses
Note: A phone is not considered a sufficient replacement for a laptop or tablet for this class.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
In some cases, make-up work will not be available (due to equipment/facility needs and/or safety/teamwork components or activity setup/facilitation/requirements).
Participants in a TCOLE credit eligible course must complete the class in its entirety to receive a TEEX Certificate of Completion and be reported for TCOLE credit.
If you have additional questions, please refer to the TEEX Participant Handbook.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Refresher mathematics
- Time and distance equations
- Conservation of linear momentum
- Vector analysis and Delta V
- Vehicle behavior in collisions
- Lamp examinations
- Post-impact drag factor and spin analysis
- Driver perception and reaction and collision impacts
- Crash data retrieval
- Reconstruction analysis projects
Suggested Audience
- Experienced collision investigators seeking new approaches to the complexities of analyzing traffic collisions
