Course Description

The Higgins Rescue School is an annual event held during June in Higgins, Texas.  This one-day event covers various topics in structure firefighting, wildland firefighting and rescue.  Lecture and hands on sessions occur during two four-hour blocks during the day:

  • Live fire training 
  • Rescue Operations 
  • Wildland Firefighting 
  • Pump Operations 
  • Self-contained Breathing Apparatus 
  • Forcible Entry 

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this Area School.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

A photo identification on the first day of class.  See the Participant Handbook opens in a new tab for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines. 

PPE must be NFPA-approved.  See the Student Safety Manual to review PPE requirements for level. 

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Due to the nature of hands-on training courses, a physical examination is recommended prior to attending this Area School. 

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Identify Hazards
  • Properly don, doff, and use Personal Protective Equiopment & Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus
  • Properly utilize fire suppression, forcible entry, ventilation, and vehicle rescue techniques
  • Search structures, remove victims, and firefighter survival.
  • Utilize proper tools for extricating victims from vehicles collisions.
