Course Description
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is for healthcare who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units. The PALS Provider Course aims to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recongnize and interven in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high perfromance team dynamics and high-quality indicidual skills. The course includes a series of case scenario practices with simulations that reidforce important concepts.
Prerequisites
All students must complete the Precourse Self-Assessment and achieve a score of at least 70% before taking the PALS course. Students must print their score report and bring it with them to class.
Renewal students must present a current PALS card. The card must be issued by American Heart Association (AHA) and not be expired at the time of class. Students with expired cards will need to attend to full course.
Course Completion Requirements
Students are expected to have a general understanding of basic EKG recognition.
Participants Must Provide
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of education process and particpants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Preform high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) per American Heart Association (AHA) basic life support recommendations.
- Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure.
- Perform early interventions for respiratory distress and failure.
- Differentiate between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock.
- Perform early interventions for the treatment of shock.
