Course Description
The Forklift Operator Instructor course is designed to develop students skills necessary to train personnel in the proper, safe, and efficient operation of powered industrial trucks. Candidate instructors successfully completing this course will have met all OSHA requirements established through 1910.178 (I) (2) (iii) enabling each to deliver training in forklift operation.
Prerequisites
TEEX Certification/Licensing Requirement
The participant must show evidence of completion of the TEEX Forklift Operation (HEP273) course within the last 24 months at least 14 business days prior to the start of class. This prerequisite may be accomplished by uploading a copy of the certificate of completion after registration using the TEEX Student Portal. Once received and approved, the participant will be notified by email they have met all prerequisites and have been added to the class roster.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- Hard hat
- Steel-toed footwear
- Gloves
- Visibility safety vest
- Personal computer or laptop
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed

Participants should have prior training as an instructor, presentation experience, and a safety background.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate effective methods of instruction for a forklift training course.
- Discuss factors in effective instruction of adult learners.
- Present forklift training information in a classroom setting.
- Create and execute forklift field training exercises.

This course is designed for trainers, instructors, and safety professionals who are called on or required to train/instruct their employees in the proper use, safety, and proficiency of powered industrial truck operation.
