Course Description
In this 2-day course, students will learn the adaptive leadership model and how the model relates to being in an authority role and exercising leadership. Both adaptive and technical challenges will be examined in order to develop understanding of the differences between them, along with disequilibrium as a necessary element in accomplishing adaptive change.
Prerequisites
Incident Command System ICS-100 and ICS-200
Preferred courses are Q0462 and Q0463, available through NFA Online
Course Completion Requirements
Participants Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
- Laptop or tablet to view student manual and exercises.
Attendance Requirements
To meet NFA attendance requirements, participants must complete each training module and successfully complete all required course assignments, activities, quizzes, and pass the end of course exam to receive course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional requirements.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Students will recognize where their authority comes from, what the boundaries of their authority are, and what can compromise their authority.
- This forms the foundation for the students to recognize the distinctions between acting as an authority figure and exercising leadership to effect change within their organizations.
Suggested Audience
The target audience for all of the executive skills series courses consists of fire and emergency service personnel in positions of authority who have an opportunity to exercise leadership. At a minimum, the students should be assigned to a supervisory level position, such as Company Officer (CO).

- 11.00 hours – State Firefighters’ and Fire Marshals’ Association of Texas (SFFMA)
- 11.00 hours – Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP)
