Course Description

The OSHA 30-hour Outreach Training for General Industry course provides students with a basic safety and health knowledge to include OSHA policies, procedures, and standards.  Special emphasis is placed on those areas that are most hazardous.  Upon completion of this course, a wallet card will be issued certifying that the student has completed 30 hours of OSHA training for General Industry.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

TEEX and the OSHA Training Institute (OTI) have an attendance policy that requires participants to fully attend an enrolled class in its entirety (100% of the course). We realize that extenuating circumstances may arise that would take a participant out of class and have a policy to handle those situations. If a participant misses less than 20% of the class, he/she may be able to perform makeup work equivalent to the class time missed. If 20% or more of the class is missed, the participant may attend a makeup course upon approval by TEEX’s OTI Education Center Director.

  •     Discuss fire safety in the workplace.
  •     Describe controlling electrical hazards.
  •     Describe working safely with electricity.
  •     Discuss personal protective equipment.
  •     Review the Small Entity Compliance Guide for the Respiratory Protection Standard.
  •     Discuss safe materials handling and storage.
  •    Review Small Entity Compliance Guide for Employers that Use Hazardous Chemicals.
  •    Identify the steps to an effective hazard communication program for employers.
  •    Recognize safety pertaining to internal combustion engines as ignition sources.
  •    Describe how to protect workers from combustible dust explosion hazards.
  •    Recognize the hazards of combustible dust explosions.
  •    Discuss permit-required confined spaces.
  •    Describe atmospheric testing in confined spaces.
  •    Identify methods for controlling hazardous energy.
  •    Recognize lockout-tagout methods.
  •   Recognize methods for safeguarding equipment and protecting employees from amputations.
  •   Describe controlling hazardous fumes and gases during welding.
  •   Discuss industrial hygiene.
  •   Discuss OSHA’s Crystalline Silica Rule.
  •   Review the Small Entity Compliance Guide for the Respirable Crystalline Silica Standard.
  •   Review OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
  •   Review bloodborne pathogens exposure incidents.
  •   Discuss Hepatitis B vaccination protection.
  •   Explain how to protect workers from the effects of heat.
  •   Explain how to protect workers from the effects of cold.
  •   Discuss methods for preventing workplace violence.
  •   Explain the hazards of distracted driving.
