Course Description
**PLEASE NOTE** This course has been approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to fulfill 20 credit hours in the following operator license area(s):
– Water Operator License
The Surface Water Production II course provides participants with in-depth problem-solving opportunities specific to the six steps of production; mixing, flocculation, coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. Through highly qualified and licensed instructors, participants will expand their understanding of the chemistry involved in the disinfection of water and special treatment processes for taste and odor, water stabilization, and the associated issues related to the Surface Water Treatment Rule.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Describe the concepts of source water protection.
- Explain the optimization process for surface water treatment.
- Explain procedures for controlling formation of disinfection by-products.
- Describe membrane filtration techniques.
- Describe the specialty treatment processes used for surface water treatment.
- Describe the application of a supervisory control and data acquisition system in water treatment.
- Explain the impact of the surface water treatment rule on utilities.
- Explain the requirements for records maintenance at surface water facilities.
- Describe the programs available to improve and recognize surface water treatment facilities.
Suggested Audience
This course is designed for entry level surface water operators in a system supplying water to its customers.
