Course Description

**PLEASE NOTE** This course has been approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to fulfill 20 credit hours in the following operator license area(s):

– Wastewater Operator License

wastewater treatment plantThe Wastewater Treatment course covers practical aspects of operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plants, emphasizing the use of safe practices and procedures. In addition to the information provided about state requirements, participants will learn about the composition and characteristics of wastewater, secondary treatment processes, disinfection of wastewater, and laboratory controls.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

  • Identify the state requirements regarding wastewater treatment.
  • Explain the characteristics of wastewater.
  • Identify the need for industrial waste monitoring.
  • Describe the initial treatment of wastewater.

  • Explain the use of pond systems in treating wastewater.
  • Explain the activated sludge process.
  • Describe processes used for the advanced treatment of wastewater.
  • Explain the process of sludge removal from the system.
  • Explain the processes used for the disinfection of wastewater.
  • Explain the use of laboratory data to control the treatment process.
  • Explain the importance of safety.
  • Solve utility calculations for wastewater treatment.

Suggested Audience

This course is designed for public works personnel and new employees of a wastewater treatment system.
