This is the lesson covering building construction. This lesson describes building construction classifications, including types of factory-built homes. The lesson also covers floors, ceilings, walls, basements, stairs, roofs, doors, and windows.

Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook opens in a new tab for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
PPE must be NFPA-approved. See the Student Safety Manual to review PPE requirements for level 4.
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed
Essentials of Fire Fighting, Seventh Edition recommended.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Differentiate among types of building construction.
- Describe the construction of floors, ceilings, and walls.
- Explain how basements and stairs may impact fire fighting operations.
- Compare the construction of different roof types.
- Describe the construction and operation methods of different types of doors and windows.
