Protecting against, responding to and recovering from emergencies – from natural or human causes – during sports or other large-scale events requires specialized knowledge and training. These courses focus specifically on incident management, crowd and evacuation management, crisis information management and developing capability to operate in multi-agency collaborations. Training is targeted to personnel in campus administration/emergency management; athletic department management; campus, local and state law enforcement; local and state emergency management; local fire and emergency medical services; and large venue management/operations. Participants work together to collaborate on basic concepts for planning, risk assessment, training, exercises for plans, and recovery/business continuity. These courses have a limited offering with priority to Division 1A sporting events and large venue special events. Certain criteria for event size must be met prior to scheduling and coordinators will work with the requesting entity to determine eligibility.
