Appeals Process
Office of Student Support Services
Understanding that decisions may not always align with expectations or circumstances, the Office of Student Support Services offers an appeals process to ensure fairness and provide avenues for reconsideration. Whether concerning academic matters, disciplinary actions, or other administrative decisions, we strive to maintain transparency throughout the appeals process.
Key Components of the Appeals Process:
Grounds for Appeal: Students are eligible to appeal decisions made by TEEX Administration, instructors, or staff if they believe there has been a procedural error, new evidence has emerged, or if they feel the decision was unjust or disproportionate to the circumstances.
Submission of Appeal: Appeals must be submitted in a timely manner. The appeal should include a clear statement of the grounds for appeal, supporting documentation or evidence and any relevant details pertaining to the situation.
Time frames to submit appeals:
- Academic Decision Appeals: 5 business days from the dismissal date
- Academic Misconduct Sanction Appeals: 5 business days from the dismissal date
- Disciplinary Action Appeals: 10 business days from the dismissal date
Review Process: Upon receipt of an appeal, the Office of Student Support Services conducts a thorough review of the case, considering all available information and documentation. This may involve consulting with relevant parties, gathering additional evidence, or seeking expert opinions, as necessary.
Decision and Notification: Following a thorough review and deliberation, the appeals panel will render a decision based on the merits of the case. Students will be promptly notified of the outcome of the appeal, along with any relevant explanations or instructions regarding the next steps.
Finality of Decision: In most cases, the decision reached through the appeals process is considered final and binding. However, students may have the option to seek further review through external mechanisms, such as university ombudspersons or relevant regulatory bodies, depending on the specific circumstances and applicable policies.
Support and Guidance: Throughout the appeals process, the Office of Student Support Services is available to provide guidance, support, and advocacy to students. We understand that navigating the appeals process can be complex and stressful, and we are committed to helping students understand their rights, options, and resources available to them.
Ensuring Due Process: Our office is dedicated to upholding the principles of due process and fairness in all aspects of the appeals process. We strive to ensure that students have the opportunity to present their case, access relevant information, and receive a fair and impartial review of their appeal.
If you are considering filing an appeal or have questions about the appeals process, please don’t hesitate to contact the Office of Student Support Services. We are here to assist you and advocate for your rights throughout the process.
