Course Description

US FlagThis course will introduce participants to the key terms, policy, guidance, and preparedness efforts required to safeguard the Nation’s critical infrastructure. Participants will discuss the risk management framework, describe Federal critical infrastructure security and resilience and information sharing programs, and relate critical infrastructure programs to individual actions. Focus will be placed on local preparedness efforts as they relate to the national approach to critical infrastructure security and resilience, enabling stakeholders to address local planning within a common framework. Informed planning is consistent with accepted emergency management standards as the basis for planning across the mission areas of prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery.

Individuals completing this course in combination with MGT310, MGT315, MGT414, and MGT452 are awarded the TEEX Infrastructure Protection Certificate.

This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements for AWR213 Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience Awareness course #78408.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Enrollment Requirements

Participants must be U.S. citizens. A FEMA Student ID is required to register for and participate in any training provided by FEMA agencies. All FEMA training providers, registration systems, and enrollment procedures are required to use this FEMA SID, which can be obtained at the following website: https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid; or with TEEX assistance upon arrival for class.

Course Completion Requirements

Participants are required to score a 70% or better on the Post-Test and attend 80% of the course hours in order to receive a course certificate of completion.

Participant Must Provide

  • A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
  • Laptop or tablet

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 80% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Participants in a TCOLE credit course must complete the class in its entirety to receive TCOLE credit.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Discuss Federal policy and guidance for CI security and resilience, the sectors with assets within their jurisdiction, the Sector Specific Agency(ies) for those sectors, and the impact of the NPR on sector assets.
  • Summarize the NIPP risk management framework and have knowledge of varying sector and asset-specific risk management tools and resources.
  • Summarize the information included in a Sector Risk Snapshot.
  • Determine the specific high-level threats and hazards to local Critical Facilities (CF) assets.
  • Determine the dependencies and interdependencies of the CF Sector.
  • Identify sector assets, threats and hazards of significant concern, and dependencies and interdependencies of sector assets.
