Course Description

Do you want to advance your Emergency Medical Service (EMS) career to the next level? The TEEX Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (www.caahep.org) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP) which allows our paramedic students to test for the National Registry. Based on the National Standard Curriculum core competencies, this course meets or exceeds minimum hours and content established by Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).
This Paramedic Program consists of 9 months of classroom lecture, skills, clinical internship rotations, and field internship rotations followed by a four-week capstone internship. The total hours for the Paramedic program are 1,268 hours and are divided into:
- 668 hours of didactic and laboratory
- 216 hours of clinical rotations
- 264 hours of ambulance experiences
- 120 hours of Capstone EMS Internship
Classes are held from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and every other Friday schedule. A detailed class schedule is provided after registration is complete.
The maximum number of participants in the program is 24. TEEX maintains a ratio of 1 instructor per 24 participants during the classroom lecture; 1 instructor per 6 participants in the skills lab; and 1 preceptor to 1 participant during field experiences.
IMPORTANT: For the complete application process, refer to the Paramedic Registration Packet. There are very specific timeframes to complete prerequisites and pay tuition outlined in this packet.
Prerequisites
The prerequisites listed below are submitted through CastleBranch (a third party vendor) and are due within 15 business days of paying your application fee. Review the Paramedic Registration Packet for instructions.
- Current EMT, EMT-Intermediate, or AEMT certification
- High School Diploma or GED completion certificate
- Copy of Driver’s License or form of government or state issued identification (must be at least 17 years of age to enroll; cannot apply for licenses with DSHS until 18 years of age)
- Technical Standards Acknowledgement Form
- A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification (Basic Life Support [BLS] for Provider certification provided by American Heart Association or American Red Cross only).
- Health insurance card with student name or letter of eligibility from insurance carrier
- A criminal background check covering the last seven years that will be initiated by CastleBranch upon account creation and payment
- Proof of the following immunizations:
- Measles (rubeola), mumps, and rubella: two vaccinations or positive titer
- Varicella (chicken pox): two vaccinations or positive titer
- Hepatitis B: three vaccinations or positive titer (series in process with two vaccinations complete will be accepted)
- Tuberculosis (TB): one of the following within the last six months:
- 1 step TB skin test
- TB Gold blood test
- T-spot blood test
- Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) blood test
- Negative chest x-ray with physician documentation stating you are TB free
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap): vaccination within the last ten years
- Flu: vaccination during the current flu season
- Meningitis: proof within the past five years if under the age of thirty
Note: COVID immunizations are not required for entry into this course. However, they may be required for internship affiliation sites.
IMPORTANT: A drug screen will be required within 30 days of starting your clinical rotations. You will complete this as directed by your class instructor and coordinated through CastleBranch.

Participants Must Provide

Requirements for successful completion
To graduate from the Paramedic program, participants must meet all the attendance and grading requirements specified in the Catalog of Vocational Programs and Paramedic Participant Policies & Procedures document. Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. For the complete Paramedic program attendance policy, refer to the Catalog of Vocational Programs and Paramedic Participant Policies and Procedures document.
Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate entry-level paramedic competency in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with exit points
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically, utilize subjective and objective reasoning and have a solid understanding and mastery of disease processes, clinical experience, and understand the importance of the proper application of emergency care within established protocols
