Course Description
New course coming soon! This course is designed to provide participants with the practical application skillset necessary of a commissioned security officer in the State of Texas. The course delivers Texas Private Security Program approved curriculum for commissioned security officers skills to include the demonstration and application of defensive tactics, handcuffing, and intermediate weapons and firearms. The practices taught in this course may be superseded by your agency’s departmental policy.
The range instruction on handgun proficiency must include an actual demonstration by the participant of the participant’s ability to safely and proficiently operate a handgun. TEEX will utilize the Texas License to Carry Handgun Proficiency Demonstration Course of Fire.
Participants must register and attend the SAP203 Texas Private Security Level III Practical Applications course within six (6) months of the completion date of the online Private Security Level III course.
This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements for Course #6016.
Prerequisites
Participants enrolling in this course must complete the following course prior to attendance:
The Private Security Level III class will be the only course accepted and must have a completion date within six (6) months of your scheduled start of the Private Security Level III Practical Applications course. No course equivalents will be allowed.
At the time of registration, the participant must disclose the primary weapon type he/she plans to bring to the training event to qualify with. The participant is responsible for bringing the primary weapon type and associated ammunition. The recognized firearm categories are:
- Semi-automatic handgun with at least three magazines
- Revolver with at least two speedloaders
If a participant needs to qualify with a shotgun, as well as the primary weapon type, this must also be noted at registration. A participant will not be required to provide a shotgun or shotgun shells; this will be provided by TEEX for use during the qualification activity. If a participant wants to bring their own shotgun for use during the qualification activity, he/she will be responsible for bringing their own shotgun shells (00 buck – 9 pellet) for the qualification activity.

Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Physical Requirements
Physical participation is required, participant must be in good physical condition and able to complete the following:
- Handcuffing techniques
- Defensive counter strikes
- Intermediate weapons techniques
- Firearms techniques
Participants must pass the Texas License to Carry Handgun Proficiency Demonstration Course of Fire on the first day of class. There will be no refunds for any candidate dismissed for failure to meet the minimum firearms qualification.
Equipment
- Participant should wear appropriate attire for security-related job duties
- Participant must bring one of the following firearm types:
- Semi-automatic handgun with at least three magazines
- Revolver with at least two speedloaders
- Participant must bring the associated ammunition for the weapon type selected:
- 100 rounds of live semi-automatic ammunition; 50 per attempt; 2 attempts allowed
- 100 rounds of live revolver ammunition; 50 per attempt; 2 attempts allowed
- Wrap-around eye protection and ear protection
- Hat or cap with a bill
Note: Optical enhancers are not allowed. Only live ammunition may be used during training and qualification. Factory-manufactured ammunition only. No armor piercing or target marking cartridges are permitted. If any malfunctions are encountered, the participant must work through the problem and finish the course of fire. If rounds are held (not fired within the allotted time), the shots will be scored as misses.
Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. The course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirement, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.
In some cases, make-up work will not be available (due to equipment/facility needs and/or safety/teamwork components or activity setup/facilitation/requirements).
Participants in a TCOLE credit eligible course must complete the class in its entirety to receive a TEEX Certificate of Completion and be reported for TCOLE credit.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to properly handle, clean, and store firearms.
- Describe when and how to use handcuffs.
- Recognize the types and uses of intermediate weapons.

- Please allow 48-72 business hours for your PSP-30 certificate to be emailed to you. The one you see on your student portal upon course completion is not the official PSP-30 certificate.
- The TEEX Private Security Level III blended course offering does not include the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) for licensing purposes per 1702.163. The DPS candidate must seek the MMPI separate from their course completion with TEEX.
