Course Description

surface water productionThe Surface Water Production I course utilizes industry professionals to provide information specific to water treatment for public consumption approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Training provided covers water taste and odor considerations, iron and manganese removal, and special water treatment processes. Participants also receive information necessary to become familiar with filtration principles, to include filter types, media, operation, and maintenance.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Course Completion Requirements

Participant Must Provide

  • a photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.

Attendance Requirements

Class attendance is an essential part of the education process and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. This course requires participants to attend a minimum of 100% of the class hours as a component of successful course completion. During the course, your instructor will review any additional attendance requirements, for example a field exercise that cannot be missed.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Describe the major sources, loss, and use of statewide water.
  • Choose pretreatment options based on water characteristics.
  • Explain the coagulation process in surface water treatment.
  • Explain the flocculation process in surface water treatment.
  • Describe the operation of the sedimentation process.
  • Explain the purpose of filtration.
  • Discuss the influence of filter media characteristics on filter performance.
  • Discuss the essential filter maintenance procedures.
  • Explain the disinfection process in surface water treatment.
  • Calculate mathematical problems associated with surface water production.
