Course Description
Peace Officers play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of the public. The Central Texas Police Academy (CTPA) delivers a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) approved Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC) leading to Texas Peace Officer licensing. Participants receive classroom training designed to prepare each individual for the state licensing examination and engage in hands-on training to better acquaint them to the rigors of police work.
This course meets Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Course #1000736 & 101.
Note: TEEX offers a Basic Police Officer TCOLE Practice Exam as a study aide to assist with preparations for the the State test.
Prerequisites
There are two tracks for enrollment in the Basic Peace Officer Course:
- as a sponsored student
- as an independent student
As part of enrollment in the Basic Peace Officer course, all students enrolled in Basic Peace Officer Academy 178 (Spring 2025) must attend a Mandatory Orientation scheduled for January 22, 2025 8 am-4 pm CST held at TEEX facilities. No exceptions.
All students are required to enroll through Blinn College along with completing registration through TEEX. Information can be found below under the “Enrollment Requirements: Steps to Registration” heading. Students wanting to use VA benefits may contact the Blinn Veterans Services Office at [email protected]. Please refer to this document concerning how to apply to Blinn College.

Sponsored Student
A sponsored student is an individual paid and employed by a law enforcement agency.
Tuition: $3000
Non-refundable Application Fee (due when submitting application): $75
Spring 2025 Important Dates
- We will start accepting applications on September 3, 2024.
- The deadline for submitting completed documents is November 15, 2024.
Documents to submit include:
- TEEX Participant Enrollment Agreement – Must download and open in Adobe Reader to complete and sign the agreement
- TCOLE Declaration of Licensing Course Enrollment Eligibility (DOLCEE) Form (original signed form must be turned in before the first day of class)
- TCOLE Law Enforcement Agency Audit Checklist
- Registration Form
- Bacterial Meningitis Information (Required for applicants 21 and younger)
- C-1 PID Assignment (Required only if you want TEEX to issue PID)
Independent Student
An independent student is an individual not sponsored by an agency and is responsible for course tuition and fees.
Requirements include:
- Participant must be at least 21 years of age before the class end date (course is 20 weeks)
- Must meet TCOLE minimum standards for licensing as defined by TCOLE rule 217.1
Tuition: $5800

- Copy of Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record (Type AR)
Applicants will be required to submit the above documents in person Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am-3pm (excluding TAMU University holidays). Upon submitting the required documents, the Central Texas Police Academy Staff will have the applicant complete the TCOLE required forms for a medical and psychological evaluation then direct the applicant to the appropriate provider. Applicants are responsible for any payment or fees required by the providers.
Enrollment Requirements: Steps to Registration
- Select the available link as applicable to the Basic Peace Officer Academy offering you desire to attend. Pay the $75 registration fee and complete your registration.
- Drop off all completed application materials at TEEX LAW 1500 4th Street, Texas A&M-RELLIS Building 7751, Bryan, TX 77807 before the listed date.
- Note: We will need a sufficient amount of time to make sure all paperwork is correct, so it is advised that you drop off materials well before this date.
- The Central Texas Police Academy (CTPA) team will reach out to you via email and send you information about registering through Blinn College and update you on your application packet status.
Course Completion Requirements
Participant Must Provide
- A photo identification on the first day of class. See the Participant Handbook for approved forms of identification and additional guidelines.
Equipment
- Notebook paper (8.5″ x 11″) and notebook dividers (minimum 42)
- Blue or black ink pens, red ink pen, highlighters, #2 pencils
- Duty belt
- Handgun and secure holster- thumb-break style
- Minimum of two-speed loaders or three magazines
- Handcuffs and key (Smith & Wesson, Peerless, Hiatts, etc.) and handcuff case
- Speedloader pouch or double magazine pouch
- Straight flashlight (Mag-lite, Surefire, Stream Light, etc.) and flashlight holder
- Belt keepers (minimum of four)
- 14 or 16 ounce, fully enclosed boxing gloves
Attire
- Athletic gear must be brought on the first day of class and each day thereafter consisting of:
- Athletic shoes
- Towel
- Toiletries (Shower Shoes)

Attendance Requirements
Class attendance is an essential part of the education process, and participants in TEEX courses are expected to attend all class sessions and field exercises. A cadet is expected to attend and participate in all BPOC training sessions. An absence is defined as not attending class for any reason. No distinction is made between excused or unexcused absences.
Participants in a TCOLE credit course must complete the class in its entirety to receive TCOLE credit.
